It can be difficult to decide what kind of career a person wants to go into. Some careers can be done for the rest of a persons career life and others are good entry level careers that will help a person move up to something better. A dental assisting career is one such career that is good to start out in and will allow a person to move up as they learn new experiences and skills.
It can be difficult to decide what kind of career a person wants to go into. Some careers can be done for the rest of a persons career life and others are good entry level careers that will help a person move up to something better. A dental assisting career is one such career that is good to start out in and will allow a person to move up as they learn new experiences and skills.
A dental assistant has a few different duties to perform. They could assist the dentist or the dental hygienist with different job functions. They might be needed to set up the room for a new patient, lead the new patient back to the room, make phone calls, set appointments, billing, scheduling, etc. They do not do as much as the dentist or the hygienist though.
A dental assisting career is usually an entry level job. A college degree is not required, although some people do get one. This is a great job for people to begin their career in if they are wanting to become a dentist or dental hygienist. They can work in the office and learn skills at the same time as they are going to school to obtain a degree and a license.
Anyone considering this as a career wants to be sure to take a lot of classes in the business or office field, health classes, biology, and chemistry. These courses would also be great for other career fields such as a doctors office receptionist, a medical billing coder, and a medical assistant.
A lot of states do not require that a dental assistant be licensed or certified. There are certain functions though, that a dental assistant cannot perform unless they are certified. A person can become certified by attending an accredited dental assisting program. There is also a test that can be administered as well which will help provide certification or a license.
This is a great place to start if someone is planning on making a career out of dentistry. This career will let you gain some experience and then attending school and becoming licensed and certified will assist the rest of the way. You may be able to become a dentist in the office you currently work in or you could open your own office or apply for a job at another office as well.
A dental assistant makes pretty good money for an entry level job. It is definitely much more than minimum wage so it would be sufficient enough to support oneself and also possibly support a family if need be.
